Tim Carr On the Hill Session at Kettle Pot Tracks
Tim came to us as part of a very lovely package deal: Both he and DIA performed at a Sofar Philly show the night before, and Carolyn from Sofar suggested that the pair shoot for On the Hill. After meeting and hearing both Tim and Danielle, we thought Carolyn had a great idea!
The morning after the Sofar show, they came to visit our place. A few weeks ago you heard the gifts that DIA left us: this week we are sharing what Tim was gracious enough to give.
So… When/why/how/where did Tim Carr get started? That is to say, can you give us a comfortably-abridged bio?
My background in music is as a jazz drummer but I’ve always been obsessed with writing chord progressions and melodies. My family is very musical and growing up with many instruments around the house I took up piano, guitar, and drums when I was about eight years old. I went to CalArts for jazz drums, but while I was there a lot of my focus turned to writing, playing guitar and singing. Because of my background as a jazz drummer, improvisation and polyrhythms are an integral part of my music.
Why did you choose these songs for On the Hill?
These are all songs that I’ve just finished recording and arranging. I really love performing them. They change every time I play them and that’s exciting to me. I thought it would be wonderful to capture a version on video.
What else is going on in your world? What’s next?
I just got back from a solo tour in Japan, where the label, MOORWORKS just released my debut album. I plan to release these songs in the US and tour with them. I have many other songs in the works that I’m looking forward to recording next year. I play drums in the bands, The Americans and Fell Runner and I am producing other artists as well.
Where can we see and hear more of you?
