Zach Hurd — On the Hill Session at Kettle Pot Tracks
Zach Hurd is one of those people: one of those very kind, sweet people; one of those exceptionally talented people; one of those people that you wish you knew a bunch more of…
…yeah, he’s one of those.
His songs? Yeah, they’re good too. Each one is a well-written, thoughtful exercise that he performs with the ease of a seasoned veteran, while still having the obvious enthusiasm of a rookie. It’s a pretty sweet combo.
Enjoy Zach Hurd: we do.
So… When/why/how/where did Zach Hurd get started? That is to say, can you give us a comfortably-abridged bio?
I grew up in Maine and got into playing guitar in middle school. As far back as I can remember music has always been a big part of my life. It was always a great escape. After college I decided I wanted to pursue my songwriting/performing more seriouslly so I spent the following few years playing in a duo and got some great experience recording, songwriting and touring. Eventually I moved to NYC and began writing and recording my own material. I spent 7 years in the city and learned a ton by playing with talented musicians and performing a lot around town. Recently, I released my 4th album and made a big move to Los Angeles. I’m pretty excited about this new chapter I’ve started on the west coast!
Why did you choose these songs for On the Hill?
I chose a few of these songs because over the past couple of years I’ve felt like people connect with them the most. I also wanted to play a couple songs from my new album…gotta keep it fresh!
What else is going on in your world? What’s next?
Right now I’m working on some collaborative projects. Doing some writing with other people as well as working on some pieces for film.
Where can we see and hear more of you?
You can find all of my music on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, etc. I’ve also been working in a new band called Bay Ledges – you can check it out here:www.soundcloud.com/bay-ledges
*Thank you so much to Kettle Pot Tracks for having me in for this session. It’s rare that artists get a platform like this to not only perform but have it captured/documented in such a beautiful way.
