Small Houses On the Hill Session
It’s not hard to recognize that someone’s got it: it is—at times—hard to recognize exactly what “it” is…
That said, Small Houses’ Jeremy Quentin, well, he’s got it. His songs are tremulous as they are tremendous, and as universal as they are utterly and undeniably specific-to-time-and-place. His softly percussive guitar technique reinforces and complements the manner in which his I-know-what-I’m-talking-about lyrics sometimes begrudgingly leave his throat. There is a beauty in the honesty with which he explains to the listener “this is what happened; it matters,” and a certain loveliness to the paradoxical picture his pitch-perfect rasp presents: he is cast as both eternally vulnerable and indefatigable in the same breath.
So, yeah, “it.”
