Haunt the House On the Hill Session
There are certain bands/artists that produce music that your ears are just so ready to hear…Haunt the House is just such a band. A friend and I were on our way to a show: he mentioned that he had a cd that he thought I’d like. We stuck Jack Rabbit Jones into the player in my old pickup truck, and within 6 (maybe 7) seconds, I was convinced that I was hearing exactly the right thing, and that Nicole would feel just as strongly… I was given the disc, and—for the first time in a long time—I was positive that I could hand it off to Nicole with the utmost confidence that she’d love it. She loved it; we love it; you’ll love it. Enjoy Haunt the House!
So… When/why/how/where did Haunt the House get started? That is to say, can you give us a comfortably-abridged bio?
I began performing solo in around 2011 or so and in 2013 released an ep. I played some shows around for a bit while also being party to a friends band GraveRobbers. (Maybe you’ve heard of James Maple? If you haven’t, you do now and have no excuse. I hear he’s got a new album coming out soon.) I wrote Jack Rabbit Jones on Thursdays between 2012 after the death of my brother and 2013. I acquired a wonderful band that helped me record the album, and play a few shows including the album release in 2014 at the Columbus Theater. The band ended up as a trio for a while and we went on a small tour or two. now I mostly play solo with some folks popping in and out.
Why did you choose these songs for On the Hill? We were touring the album (JRJ) at the time and those songs were a good representation of the story being told. I like the idea of theater in music. I wrote those songs in that album as a concept/story and hoped people would get it.
What else is going on in your world? What’s next?
I am now an unofficial resident of Connecticut. Yay taxes! I’m also in the very laborious process of writing an album amidst a severely complicated life, but loving every minute. I have a short northeastern run coming up with Zach Schmidt from Nashville. I met him at the Newport Folk Festival and have a few friends in common. We will be out there to sing and play for you on Nov 28th. We can’t wait.
Where can we see and hear more of you? You can always go to hauntthehouse.bandcamp.com to hear any latest release and see where I’ll be next. Come see a show!
