Todd Fausnacht On the Hill Session at Kettle Pot Tracks

Todd Fausnacht On the Hill Session

I met Todd at a Sofar Philadelphia show in August, 2014. He was fronting his band The Snails (https://www.facebook.com/thesnailspa2/), and playing a stripped-down set of cool, vintage-y ska. We had a nice chat after the show, and picked up that conversation several months later. I heard (and liked) a record of Todd’s non-Snails jams, so it was an easy decision to have him come and share a few songs with us, and with you. Enjoy Mr. Todd Fausnacht! Todd Fausnacht On the Hill Session So… When/why/how/where did Todd Fausnacht (the musician) get started? That is to say, can you give us a comfortably-abridged bio? Around about 18 years old I started to play guitar and quickly took a liking to the genuine growl of folks like Howlin’ Wolf and Blind Willie McTell.  I spent weekends coughing through stacks of dusty 45’s all around the state of PA searching for gems .. I say this like I don’t do that anymore.. lies!  I have a strong taste for classic blues .. not that white-washed twelve minute clean guitar solo stuff.  That stuff has no soul.  I guess I quench a music with some sort of backbone… Why did you choose these songs for On the Hill? With the exception of Rail Ridin’ , these are all tunes are brand new and the boys and I are spending pockets of time in the studio with them (When I’m not being a Snail, teaching, or doing grad work). It is a work in progress but we’re taking our time with the record so that it comes out the way we want.  I look at song writing as more of a spoken word, 60’s beat poet type thing. It’s something you have to really bleed and dig your nails in.. you can’t just flutter your pen across a page and call it a song.  That’s doing your influences a disservice.. Todd Fausnacht On the Hill SessionWhat else is going on in your world? What’s next?

As far as this project, we are really trying to record and get this thing released..

Where can we see and hear more of you?

I will be performing at The Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival on February 27th.  That’ll be a good one! Other than that.. just keep your ear to that screen that takes up so much of your time.. and I’lll be announcing more stuff up the road..
